QATAR is to launch a satellite TV channel to mark its National Day falling on December 18 when the state’s
founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani assumed power in 1878.
The channel, named Al Dawha, the Arabic way of pronouncing Doha, will broadcast interviews with officials and
leading public figures about their reflections on the country’s national Day.
It will also feature programmes which are produced specifically to highlight the unprecedented progress Qatar
has witnessed during the past few years.
The channel will telecast documentaries on the history and culture of Qatar as well as the phases of development
which the state has witnessed since 1878.
All municipalities have been festooned with thousands of Qatari flags.
As part of the celebrations, the Ministry of Interior is using a special seal to stamp documents issued by the
public departments providing services to the public during the month.
The Doha Corniche will be one of the main venues where celebrations marking the day will be staged.
Souvenirs and gifts will be distributed to the public attending the National Day functions.
